My road bike journey to Niagara Falls on June 10-11, 2017 (so far)...

Welcome back guys to my blog site! It's seriously been a LOOOONNNGGG time since I've last posted here. I sincerely apologize for the lack of communication here.

So I'm going to try something different and I haven't quite figured out how to do this properly, but I would like to try to document my training for a bike ride to Niagara Falls on June 10, 2017. It will be my very first century ride... and then some. The ride to Niagara Falls is approximately 200km one way. So it's going to be one hell of an amazing ride!

Biking has been a really fun sport that I'm so happy that I've been able to be part of since August 2016. I bought my first "starter" road bike - Trek Domane 2.0 with a Tiagra group set - because I wasn't exactly sure if this was a sport that I'm really interested in pursuing in the long term. BUT riding all last fall has been such a fun and an amazing experience that I really want to pursue it much more than I've ever expected (despite the cramping, sunburns, bad tanlines, deyhydration, and hitting "the wall").

In the winter, I've been mostly swimming to keep up my cardio and strength. My lovely girlfriend bought me a bike trainer that I used as well to keep my legs used to riding. Once the warmer weather hit, I've been biking 25-30km each week. My longest ride so far has been riding from Toronto to Mississauga/Port Credit which is approximately 51km. With 24 days till June 10, I'm going to increase my training and distance. I'll probably need to get tons of treatment done from colleagues and also train while I'm at a course in Chicago as well. But I'll be here to keep track of journey and I believe it'll be a really fun journey.

Speaking of training... Yesterday by far was the best training sessions that I've had so far. I did a 1km swim at the Markham PanAm pool and then I did a 25km bike ride. I feel sore and I'll take a rest day today. But tomorrow will be a swim day and then I feel like I'm able to take a 10-20% increase in distance on Friday. I'm looking forward to it. =D

Next on the top of my head is all the stuff that I'll need to pack/bring on this trip. Gel packs, clothes, water, phone chargers, bike repair kits, spare tubes, etc.

Thanks for taking the time to read this post. For those who are more experienced riders, I more than welcome your advice on my century ride and what to prepare or how to train with 24 days, or whatever! I thank you all in advance!

Time to start this journey!
